About Iberá National Park

Iberá National Park, located in the Corrientes Province of northeastern Argentina, protects one of the largest freshwater wetlands in South America, the Iberá Wetlands (Esteros del Iberá). Spanning over 550,000 acres, the park encompasses a mosaic of lagoons, swamps, marshes, and tropical forest patches that support an extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna. This ecosystem functions as an important habitat for hundreds of bird species, capybaras, caimans, otters, jaguars, and the rare marsh deer. The park was established in 2018, evolving from a private reserve initiative aimed at conserving the wetlands and restoring native species, particularly the reintroduction of the maned wolf and giant anteater. Visitors to Iberá National Park can participate in guided boat tours, horseback riding excursions, birdwatching hikes, and night safaris to experience its unique nocturnal wildlife. The park’s extensive waterways and trails invite paddling and hiking enthusiasts, while the remote setting creates a peaceful sanctuary away from urban life. Key landmarks include the Laguna Iberá, the heart of the wetlands, and several ecological stations supporting environmental research. Iberá’s conservation success story and its role in wetland preservation have made it a model for sustainable tourism in Argentina. The park’s diverse landscapes and prolific wildlife make it an outstanding destination for naturalists, photographers, and outdoor adventurers.
